A few weeks ago we were contacted by Scripps Networks – the guys behind some of the content for Food Network and the Travel Channel whether we would appear on a show with Andy Bates to celebrate the World Cup. The idea is that Andy cooks up something delicious to represent England and then he is pitted against a world-food street food trader who bring food influenced by their own country.

So, on a fairly blustery day back in May, we headed over to Hackney Marshes to film the piece. We were joined by the lovely guys at Cheeky Italian who brought their Mini Calzones to represent Italy that day. Those Calzones are seriously amazing – like buttery Cornish pastries filled with super moreish meaty filling. If you haven’t tried their food already, definitely trek them down at Street Feast in Dalston Yard. I think they’re there every weekend throughout the summer.

To represent Korea, we brought our biggest seller – our spicy pork belly bun (thinly sliced pork in a sticky, sweet, spicy gochujang sauce, topped with a yoghurt based mooli ‘slaw). It’s based on the Korean BBQ dish Jeyuk bokkeum (제육볶음) but is a little easier to eat on the go. We then went on the pitch to entice the footie players coming off the pitch to try our/Andy’s food to see which they liked best. Both went down a real storm, and it was a *Really* close call.
